After Sept. 11, Americans have rushed to educate themselves about Islam, the Middle East and foreign affairs. But how did we get so benighted in the first place?

‘He Never Even Had a Kite’

“Anyone who is willing to drive a plane into a building to kill Jews is all right by me,” Roper wrote on a National Alliance Internet list as some 6,000 people lay dying in the wreckage of the worst terrorist attack in American history. “I wish our members had half as much testicular fortitude.”

Salahuddin Khalled has a gentle voice, angelic eyes lined thickly with kohl, and is a graduate from a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan. Mention the fact that about 6,500 people are feared dead in the attacks on New York and the Pentagon and his face lights up with a beatific smile.

Words no longer suffice when the subject is Michael Jordan. You need numbers. Call him the very best basketball player who ever lived, and no one puts up much of a fuss anymore: Five championship rings, five MVP trophies, a record ten scoring titles--yeah, he's got more game than anybody. Ask whether he's worth all that money he's paid by Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf, and you're still not likely to start any bar fights. Sure, Jordan's salary is some $34 million this season. But hey: since Reinsdorf bought 56% of the Bulls for $9.2 million the year after Jordan arrived, his investment has grown more than 1,000%--the team is now worth well over $200 million.

Bush freezes assets of what he says are terrorists organizations. Hey, they are what we call charities to help a poor country.

Food for thought: The muslim scholars have said that it is haram (wrong) for one muslim country to help the United States bomb another muslim country without any proof. The question now is when America does retaliate with force to find Osama Bin Laden, and innocent people die in Afghanistan. If the scholars say that the muslim countries must now gather troops to defend the muslims in Afghanistan against the Americans. What then?

Islam once again under scrutiny.

Once again we see that due to the lack of knowledge that people have about Islam, they prejudge what they see before they get their facts.
